Harf means a direction, and depending on what recitation is easiest for you, you should stick to one Mahruf or Dilect. The 7 dilects are: Al-Madani, Al Makki, Abu 'Amr, Ad-Dimashqi, Ibn Al-Najud, Az-Zaiyyat and Al-Kisai.
These are named after the Tabioon that kept them alive after the Uthman caliphate's consolidation of the Quran and Normalization to the Ibn Al-Najud style, commonly known as Hafs. The derivatives of the major dialects are
(Qalun, Warsh, Al-Bazzi, Qunbal, Al-Duri, Al-Susi, Hisham, Ibn Dhakwan, Shu'bah, Hafs, Khalaf, Khallad, and Al-Layth). These commonly modify spellings or meanings according to the same lettering and are all valid. Qiraat
is a style of intionition in reciting the Quran and valid Qiraat are numerous.
Assuming you already passed the tajweed test and are well on your way to being a Qari, the next steps is to instill it in your mind. The first tarteel has you calmly reciting the Quran giving each letter its own right and
obeying the rules of tajweed. The second tarteel is called Al-Hathr where you recite fast enough so your eyes are already looking words ahead from where your mouth is busy reading. Next is Tadweel,
an average tempo recitation with pauses and complete phrases. Then comes Tahqeeq which is a really slow recitation of the quran to make sure you memorize the harakaat (vowel sounds), it can also be in the
form of Mujawwad (reciting with a deep voice or deep nazalation). Lastly there is Zamzamah, reciting to yourself.
You think you might sound alright and might be adhering to all the rules, but building your chops as a Qari is not a solitary effort. One of the Miracles of the Quran is that it can be a standard for communication even
if you don't know the other's language. If you make a mistake, muslims all around the world can correct you. This is the purpose of Qari Corner, to connect all such individuals, so if you got this far, take the test with
3 different verifiers and you'll be listed as a Qari and can teach others. May Allah(swt) guide you to the straight path and grant you Jannah!
